Hi, I’m Layla! As a counselor-in-training, I aim to help clients gain clarity about who they are and work towards living authentically. I believe that we were not made to carry our stories inside, and that by inviting another person in to bear witness to our experiences, we can begin to live with self-acceptance. Therapy is most effective when it’s collaborative, taking clients' experiences into account and meeting them where they are in their journey.
I work from a person-centered approach and aim to provide services that are strength-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. My style is integrative and often incorporates elements of narrative therapy, psychodynamics, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I enjoy working with all ages, and have experience helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, systemic oppression, and neurodivergence. I hope to serve marginalized populations, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities that often struggle to find care that is affirming.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Arizona State University and am currently a third-year Master of Counseling student there. I work under the direct supervision of Mercedes Shingler, MSW, LCSW. I look forward to working with you!
